Applications for the Black Scholars Matter initiative are accepted year-round!

In order to be considered for an award, applications must be submitted to H.A.P.S. by the 10th day of the month preceding the conference; i.e. if the conference is on November 20th, applications must be submitted by October 10th.

Black Scholars Matter provides grants to Black undergraduate students to enable them to attend either the American Society of Overseas Research annual meeting, or the American Research Center in Egypt annual meeting.

Applicants must be Black undergraduate students in their junior or senior year of study, currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university. Successful applicants will receive $1,000 towards conference expenses, and will be provided with mentors to help them navigate the conference experience.

The application is intended to be a place where you can showcase your enthusiasm for the ancient world, and to show us some of your personality. It is not intended to be a rigorous examination of your academic abilities.

If your application is put through to the second round, then we will request a character reference and a C.V. before scheduling an online interview.
